There’s a new face towering over the Naylor Savanna—and she’s already stealing hearts.

The  has officially welcomed Jasiri, a one-year-old female giraffe who recently arrived from the Tulsa Zoo. Her name, which means “courageous” in Swahili, couldn’t be more fitting as she confidently settles into her new home alongside fellow giraffes Waffles, Brayden, and Kicheko.

Meet Jasiri: Curious, Confident, and Ready to Explore

From the moment she arrived, Jasiri has shown off a personality that zookeepers and guests alike are sure to love. She’s described as smart, curious, and highly motivated by food—traits that have helped her quickly adapt to new surroundings and training routines.

Visitors can currently spot Jasiri in the giraffe barn within the Naylor Savanna, where she’s getting comfortable in her new environment. Over the coming weeks, she’ll begin exploring the full habitat alongside the rest of the herd, offering even more opportunities for guests to see her in action.

A Bigger Mission: Supporting Giraffe Conservation

Jasiri’s arrival isn’t just exciting—it’s meaningful.

She is part of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan®, a program designed to protect threatened and endangered species through responsible breeding and population management.

According to San Antonio Zoo leadership, every animal plays a role in connecting people to wildlife and inspiring conservation action. Jasiri represents the future of giraffes and the important work accredited zoos are doing to ensure their survival.
