The San Antonio Zoo has announced an exciting new step toward inclusivity by joining the Zoo and Aquarium for a Neurodiverse Ecosystem (ZANE). This growing network brings together zoos, aquariums, and conservation organizations from across the country to create welcoming environments for people of all neuro-identities—both staff and visitors.

Building a More Inclusive Zoo Experience

By becoming an institutional member of ZANE, the San Antonio Zoo has pledged to uphold values of curiosity, inclusivity, and advocacy. This membership reinforces the zoo’s ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion, ensuring that neurodivergent individuals feel supported in the workplace and celebrated as part of the community.

“Joining ZANE is an important step in our mission to create an inclusive environment for both our staff and our guests,” said Tim Morrow, President & CEO of San Antonio Zoo. “We believe that neurodivergent perspectives enrich our workplace and our conservation efforts. This membership connects us with a supportive community while strengthening our ability to provide meaningful support to our team.”

What ZANE Membership Provides

As part of ZANE, the San Antonio Zoo gains access to:

  • Resources and Guidance: Webinars, best-practice consulting, and educational materials to improve workplace inclusion.
  • Community Connections: Networking with self-advocates, allies, and other member zoos and aquariums.
  • Training Opportunities: Workshops, virtual discussions, and conference events that promote awareness and understanding.
  • Direct Support Services: Guidance on how to best support neurodivergent individuals in zoological settings.

This new partnership highlights the zoo’s dedication to continuous learning and compassion, making it a leader not only in conservation but also in creating spaces where everyone belongs.
